"From The Heart"
About The Author "My name is Rick Yeager, I’m a warrior and a survivor. I was born in Helena, Arkansas, a small town on the Delta next to the Mississippi River. I have two adult children, Kelli and Tony, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. I was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The doctor scheduled my liver biopsy every six months for two years without accomplishing finding a treatment to help me. Two years later another doctor performed the liver biopsy and diagnosed with stage four cirrhosis of the liver. My only hope of surviving would be a liver transplant. I had an appointment at the transplant center to be listed. Unfortunately I was unable to be listed due to a low meld score. My health continued to decline over the next year. I was diagnosed with Hepatic Encelphalopy which cause toxins to build in my body and caused confusion, memory loss, personality changes and close to being in a coma. A year and a half later I was listed on the transplant list with over 124,00 people on the list. During my journey I had a stroke which left me in a wheelchair for two months and had to learn to walk again. Four days after being released from the hospital I diagnosed with breast cancer and had surgery on both breast. My health continued to decline and was diagnosed with liver cancer two days after Christmas in 2017. I knew without a transplant soon I wasn’t going to survive. My body became very ill, lost weight and muscle mass. I knew in my heart I was dying. On June 8, 2018 God sent a Hero who saved my life. Tommy will always be my Hero and saved my life. During my journey when I was feeling very ill I began writing poems from my heart. Without Organ Donation many lives will not survive. Consider becoming an organ donor and be someone’s hero."
"From the Heart”
Published September 6, 2018 Poetry I have written during my four year battle of cirrhosis of the liver, hepatic encelphalopathy and liver cancer, that with the heartfelt, lifesaving Gift of Life from my Hero, my donor won my battle. I was given the opportunity during my illness to write my Prayers, feelings and emotioins during my long journey. Writing my book was my sanctuary finding peace within expressing how I was feeling while I was dying.
